Directorate of Technical Education
Technical Education in the State began in 1972 with the establishment of Nagaland Polytechnic, Atoizu in Zunheboto as the first Polytechnic in the State and now rename as Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu. The Department of Technical Education became a full-fledged Directorate in the year 2009 after bifurcating from Information Technology and with Higher Education in the year 2004. There are now 9 (nine) Government Polytechnics under the Department in various Districts namely; Zunheboto, Kohima, Mokokchung, Dimapur, Phek, Tuensang, Mon, Peren &Wokha in the State.
The Department of Technical Education, Nagaland, is catering to the Demand of Technical skill manpower of the State in a relatively small numbers but in an very efficient impact way by providing 3-years Diploma programme in various fields. Short tern Skill training programmes/courses are also offered in the Polytechnics to impart basic skills to the un-employee youths, School and College students for self employed and sustainable. Further, The Department and the Polytechnics provides necessary soft skill trainings and trade specific skill trainings for reskilling and upskilling to employees of Government and private sectors across the State
